Holes + Comets Series

Holes 1-11 Acrylic and Pastel on Panel 6 x 8” each. 2016

Phobos & Diemos, Acrylic and Pastel on panel 22 x 28” 2016

This body of work was developed while I was an Artist in Residence at Autodesk’s Pier 9, a state of the art advanced manufacturing facility that encourages the use of technology in unconventional ways. With this in mind I collaborated with the latest machines to invent a form of hybrid painting that consider the tension between human and machine art making, while embracing both the precision and the mistakes of the process, viewing each glitch as the machine’s opportunity for creative self-expression. This part of the series depicts the first 11 holes left on the surface of Mars as well as the two Martian moons Phobos and Diemos.
